Planning for the Future: Understanding Community Preservation Acts, A CCE Sullivan Workshop for Municipal Leaders and Community Stakeholders
WHITE LAKE, NY — Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCE Sullivan), in partnership with the Orange County Land Trust and the Sullivan County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board, invites municipal officials, planning and zoning board members, and community stakeholders to attend the “Planning for the Future: Understanding Community Preservation Acts” workshop on Wednesday, August 6, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Duggan Community Center, located at 3460 State Route 55, White Lake, NY 12786.
This workshop will open with an overview of Sullivan County’s growing farmland preservation efforts and its partnership with the Orange County Land Trust. The session will feature a presentation by Michael Sweeton of the Orange County Land Trust, who will explain what a Community Preservation Act (CPA) is, how CPA funds are collected and used, and what steps local communities can take to implement one. Attendees will also hear real-world examples of communities that have successfully adopted CPAs.
The workshop will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, offering participants the opportunity to ask questions, share insights, and discuss how CPAs could benefit their own communities. This event is part of a broader educational series focused on land use and preservation, supported by the County of Sullivan. Additional sessions will be announced soon.
Planning and Zoning Board Members may be eligible to receive 2 training credits for attending this class. Registration is required. To register, visit: sullivancce.org/CPAs
